You and your US Native English Tutor meet in the online class through Internet telephone connection in Skype. You will improve your spoken English by way of conversation with your English tutor. Below is the process of how an online English tutoring class is conducted:
1. Your English tutor calls you at the scheduled time for your class. Your English tutor greets you and introduces the topic for the session. This topic is a conversation with a dialog for two persons to role play (see English conversation lessons), vocabulary and grammar.
2. In the online class, you and your English tutor role play using the conversation lesson dialog, exchange questions and answers. Your tutor corrects you, have you repeat after him or her, and provides feedback on your progress. See US Native English Tutoring Guidelines for more information.
3. At the end of the lesson, your English tutor summarizes key points of the lesson and asks you if you have any question or comment before the class ends.
4. Your English tutor and you decide on the topic for the next lesson. You may make a request for a conversation from the English conversation lessons.
5. You and your English tutor greet each other and exit.
We find that English learners are highly interested in our conversational approach. Our findings show conversational tutoring benefits students in the following ways:
increases student motivation to speak English.
helps the English tutor give immediate feedback to the student to see his or her improvement.
provides a meaningful context with a topic of interest to the student, to motivate the student to learn new concepts.
provides opportunities for the student to use both formal and informal English.
