Below we list our guidelines for the US Native English Tutor to use in class. We expect our tutors integrate these guidelines to their lesson plans. New ideas by our tutors are always welcome as long as they comply with best practices for teaching English online to US native students and ESL students (students whose English is not their mother tongue).
You will prepare your lessons using our materials and the Internet. If you have additional resources, please feel free to add them to your lesson plans. You will use Internet resources to help enhance your student learning.
You will teach by way of conversation, the mainstay of our teaching method. You will create opportunities for the student to speak English using conversations.
You will incorporate a variety of teaching strategies into your teaching. You will utilize our multimedia resources as well as those on the Internet.
You will modify your teaching style to your student's individual needs.
In the online class, you will converse with the student, keep the lesson interactive, correct the student in an appropriate manner you feel right.
You will determine improvement areas the student needs to make regarding grammar, fluency, pronunciation and spoken English, and communicate them to the student every now and then.
You will motivate the student by pointing out to his/her strengths, improvement the student makes. You will create opportunities for the student to feel good about his/her progress.
At the end of each session, you will summarize of what you have taught.
At the end of each session, you will ask the student if he/she enjoyed and understood the lesson, and have any question or comment. We feel that if you satisfy the student's particular needs, you will succeed. Please encourage your student to ask questions, make comments or suggestions for his or her own improvement.

If you feel necessary, please prepare a check-list for yourself to use while tutoring. You can create a check-list using the above guidelines.
