Learning new vocabulary, just like learning any new concepts, takes time and effort. Applying the following steps to your learning process will help you learn new vocabulary quickly and use it correctly.
Learn the vocabulary you are interested in--related to your profession, hobby or interests.
Learn a new word every day.
Look up the new word both in the dictionary and in the thesaurus.
See how it is used in different contexts. Google the word: "define word", for example, "define solitary".
Make a sentence using the new word. Check up if your usage is correct, by a asking an authority to help you with it. Again, google your sentence: type your sentence in the Google search box to see returned responses
When you hear or see the word, pay attention to how it is used it in that context.
Use the word in your conversations. See Conversation vocabulary.
Use the word in your writing. The more you will use it, the better you will understand its correct usage.
Do word puzzles, play scrabble or any computer vocabulary games of interest.
Watch TV news, programs and movies in English you like. When watching, do not try to catch each word but, rather, try to understand what is going on. If you listen for the over all meaning of the context, you will pick up more vocabulary out of that TV program and remember it better later.
Vocabulary:
dictionary: noun. A dictionary defines a word's precise meaning, but without an exact equivalent, a synonym to replace it. , yet a close meaning or the same meaning, however for different context.
synonym is a word or phrase that means exactly or almost the same as another word or phrase in a language. For example, illustration is a synonym of example.
antonym is a word that has a meaning opposite to that of another word. For example, cold is antonym of hot.
thesaurus: Defines the word's meaning, synonyms and antonyms.
